In a surprise turn of events, Wild Thang, an 8-year-old brachycephalic Pekingese, clinched victory at this year’s highly anticipated competition in Petaluma. Despite initial perceptions of “ugliness,” judges at Petaluma had no doubts when casting their votes.

The World’s Ugliest Dog Contest, contrary to its name, does not mock its participants but rather celebrates their unique appearances, challenging conventional standards of beauty. Moreover, Wild Thang leverages his social media presence to support fellow Pekingese dogs in Ukraine, facilitating adoptions away from the conflict. Through his Instagram account, he has successfully aided in the adoption of 7 Pekingese into loving homes in Canada and the United States.

In addition to Wild Thang’s triumph, Rome, a 14-year-old Pug battling severe social anxiety, and Daisy Mae, also 14 years old and rescued from the streets at the age of 2, secured well-deserved second and third places, respectively.
