Heroes don’t always wear masks and capes as comics and movies portray. They often possess extraordinary courage and determination, just like Trevor Skaggs, an American citizen recognized for his valiant act.
A courageous rescue
Trevor Skaggs, a member of the nonprofit Butte County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue, assisted in rescue operations following devastating fires in the region. He saved a family of Rottweilers that had been abandoned by their owner due to the emergency. Thanks to Skaggs, a mother and her puppies are alive today.
The ordeal began north of Sacramento, California, where extreme temperatures sparked terrifying wildfires across Butte, Plumas, Shasta, and Tehama counties. The flames, among the worst in the state’s history, consumed thousands of acres of forest.
Evacuation and a desperate situation
Authorities ordered evacuations for residents in areas close to the fires. Amid the fear and chaos, a resident fled his home with his two Rottweilers and their four puppies, loading them into a truck. Unfortunately, the vehicle broke down, forcing the owner to leave the dogs behind. He alerted authorities and rescuers, hoping someone would come to their aid.
That someone was Trevor Skaggs. Since the area where the dogs were stranded was inaccessible, Skaggs used the association’s helicopter to locate them and find an alternate route for rescue. Despite being over 1.2 miles away, the distance didn’t deter Skaggs. He trekked the distance without hesitation to save the dogs before it was too late. Sadly, one adult male Rottweiler didn’t survive.

A successful rescue
However, the mother and her puppies, though weakened and thirsty, were still alive. Skaggs gave them water and shared a piece of his protein bar. He then managed to lead the dogs back to the helicopter. The rescue was successfully completed, and they were taken to Chico Airport, where Skaggs handed them over in excellent condition.
Three days ago, a truck with several dogs inside was reported to North Valley Animal Disaster Group in an area where…

Safe haven for the rottweilers
The mother Rottweiler and her puppies were transferred to the North Valley Animal Disaster Group, an organization that provides shelter and care for animals during emergencies. The team lovingly cared for the family until their owner could be reunited with them.
After days of battling the #ParkFire and evacuating many animals in the burn zone it has been fun having the "helicopter puppies" around the staging area. Mom and the puppies are doing great, and the owner is reuniting with them this evening. We will miss them!
