Gabrielzinho: a story of determination and joy

Gabriel Geraldo dos Santos Araújo is a Brazilian swimmer who, despite his medical condition, did not give up enough to become a star of the Paralympics

Gabrielzinho’s love for swimming began quite unexpectedly when his physical education teacher signed him up for a competition without his knowledge. From that moment on, he discovered swimming as a means to express himself and overcome physical barriers. His skill in the water quickly became apparent, leading him to compete at the highest levels of Paralympic sport.

Always dance to celebrate life and victories

Gabrielzinho emerged as a standout figure at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, where he won three gold medals and one silver, establishing himself as one of the most talented athletes in his category. At the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, he achieved even greater success, winning another three gold medals (100-meter backstroke S2, 50-meter backstroke S2, and 200-meter freestyle S2) and setting two world records in a single day.

Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Gabrielzinho is also known for his zest for life and passion for dance. For him, dancing is not just a hobby but a way to celebrate life and his victories. This joyful spirit is evident in every public appearance, especially during significant events like the Paralympic opening ceremonies, where he had the honor of carrying the Brazilian flag while riding his electric tricycle.

Gabrielzinho’s story is a powerful example of how dedication and positivity can overcome any obstacle. His life inspires not only other athletes but also anyone facing daily challenges related to disabilities, showing that with determination and passion, even the biggest dreams can come true
