“Tadpole Water,” is a TikTok trend that combines water, chia seeds, and lemon juice. An apparently harmless drink which, however, if used incorrectly, can expose one to some risks

Tadpole Water is a drink that became popular in TikTok, where most of Generation Z gained affection for it.
It’s made from hot water, chia seeds, and lemon juice-a harmless combination superficially. However, the problem here is that it took to the belief of some consumers’ properties for weight loss and did not eat a meal but instead drink this concoction.
What is Tadpole Water?
It was called “Tadpole Water” and mixed hot water, chia seeds, and a squeeze of lemon. Chia seeds expand and become jelly-like in water; hence the name of this concoction.
This quirky appearance has most definitely contributed to its TikTok fame, where users of this drink share glowing testimonials about its supposed weight loss benefits.
Above all, young women claim that chia seeds have slimming properties. Chia seeds surely contain a very high amount of fiber, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids, which fill the stomach and decrease appetite. However, to say that they are “slimming” would already be an exaggeration. Some claimed on TikTok rapid weight loss thanks to this drink because of this, further boosting its popularity among youth.
That said, there is no scientific evidence that supports this drink’s effectiveness for weight loss. Some nutritionists warn that it is not a panacea and should not be used as a meal replacement in a balanced diet.

The risks
The beverage is not toxic in itself, but even its practice entails serious risks. For one thing, this water concoction may be considered as a meal replacement, which would arguably be the most hazardous risk of them all. Younger individuals may readily reduce their caloric intake by replacing meals with Tadpole Water, which easily lead to nutritional deficiencies.
It is recommended that Tadpole Water be consumed as a supplement to an already healthy diet and not to replace any meal.
Another thing people need to be aware of is the fact that too much fiber intake can cause digestive issues such as bloating, cramping, and constipation if the individual is unable to digest it.
Furthermore, those with inflammatory bowel diseases, particularly those with Crohn’s disease, should be very cautious while consuming chia seed water with lemon, as it may trigger some flare-ups.
Lastly, there is a potential interaction of chia seeds with medications. For instance, they might enhance the action of drugs taken for blood pressure and lead to possible hypotension or low blood pressure.
