From the first minute, the ethologist champion of nature conservation was alongside Paul Watson, founder of Sea Shepherd, arrested in Denmark at the request of Japan. First with a joint statement with members of the Jane Goodall Institute calling for Watson's immediate release and then by sending him a heartfelt message

“You now have come to care about the hearts of those holding your fate in their hands“, says Jane Goodall, a world-renowned ethologist because of her studies of chimpanzees which started in 1960 in Gombe Forest, Tanzania. These words in fact, bring a strong message of support to Captain Paul Watson.
Goodall is one of the world’s most renowned environmental and animal protection advocates, and perhaps no one knows more about the importance of protecting our planet and its creatures. Gentle soul though she is, her words serve as a reminder, if any were needed, that the fight for our common world will never be over.
“Strength and courage,” she says in this video. “And I hope that the Danes will see sense.”
Paul Watson’s arrest sends shockwaves through environmental community
The detention of Paul Watson, captain, activist and founder of Sea Shepherd, has sent shockwaves through the ranks within the environmental and animal welfare communities; though for most, this is a story that has yet to hit the headlines.
Watson was detained in Denmark at the request of Japan due to his activities against whaling and now faces imprisonment, embroiled in the midst of a major battle for legal rights.
For over five decades, Paul has dedicated his life to the defense of our oceans and protection of whales. His reward? Arrest and the looming threat of a life sentence in a Japanese prison.
The one and only “crime” Captain Watson has committed is his tireless fighting to protect whales, placing himself between Japanese whaling vessels and their targeted cetaceans. This is an incredibly worrying situation, and this should outrage us all.
