If there is one animal photography contest that would pride itself on charm and uniqueness, it would unquestionably be the Dog Photography Awards, created by Audrey Bellot and Claudio Piccoli, shining its light upon one animal alone: the dog.
This year, during this edition, the Dog Photography Awards have received thousands of applications that came from all over the world. After a quite heavy and expensive selection process, the jury announced the winners of this fourth edition.
It had five categories, namely Portrait, Action, Studio, Dogs & People, and Documentary, each category having a number of prizes.
Portrait: capturing Kooki’s leap

The first place in the Studio category went to Valeria Barbara Barriera Cassina with her work titled “Canine Metamorphosis.”

Dogs & people: the Princess & the Pea
In the category of Dogs & People, the first-place winner is Jane Thomson for “The Princess & the Pea.” Her picture shows a young hospital patient with one of the dogs in a pediatric hospital program. Elated, Thomson said, “Capturing the bravery of these amazingly courageous young hospital patients combined with the elegant therapy dogs has been the most rewarding photographic project that I have ever undertaken.

Documentary: braving the elements in Greenland
In the category of Documentary, the winning photograph was by John Fabiano. The shot reveals an intimate moment: sled dogs waiting patiently while the photographer’s guide untangles their sled ropes during a snowstorm in the small indigenous village of Siorapaluk, Greenland-a large, GPS-free expanse of snow and ice.
