HappyCow, the most popular website for vegans, has just released its annual list of the most vegan-friendly cities in the world for 2025. The ranking is based on a number of factors, including the number of vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants and businesses.
Other factors that contribute to the criteria are the number of these establishments per square mile, their growth over the years, access to vegan food, the pulse of the local community, and awareness of veganism in general.
London and Berlin once again top the charts for the fourth consecutive year
Meanwhile, London and Berlin retain the top spot for the fourth year in a row. London is quite exceptional in terms of diversity: it has more than 3,600 venues offering vegan options, including 54 fully vegan restaurants found in the city center. Berlin, though slightly reducing its overall number of establishments this year, still boasts 116 totally vegan restaurants and an overall rise in vegan-friendly ones.
Ho Chi Minh City experiences a 33% increase in the number of fully vegan restaurants
As far as North American cities go, it’s still all about the Los Angeles–Portland tag team. While Los Angeles has lost a few spots compared to last year, they still boast 128 restaurants that are fully vegan. Portland, as always, tops the leaderboards for vegan restaurants per capita, with a whopping 631 establishments.
Meanwhile, in Europe, Lisbon and Barcelona come right behind London and Berlin. Lisbon has now received a 10% increase in fully vegan restaurants, making it solidly an up-and-coming destination. Barcelona still attracts vegans from far and wide, boasting the most varied options per square mile.
New entrants in the ranking include Mexico City and Ho Chi Minh City. The Mexican capital boasts one of the fastest growings of vegan places in the world while Ho Chi Minh City ranked as the fastest-growing vegan city with fully vegan restaurants increased by up to 33%.
