A dog slipped from the top floor of the building, but a neighbor saved her by using a cardboard box to cushion her fall and prevent her from hitting the ground

There was an incredible rescue in São Paulo, Brazil, in the Água Chata community when a small Yorkshire Terrier named Alicinha fell from the top story of her building. She was rescued by a quick-thinking neighbor who put down a cardboard box to cushion the fall and prevent a tragic end.
The accident occurred on Thursday, February 20, in the afternoon. Clarissa, the neighbor who acted heroically, reported that she overheard the residents’ pleas for help. When she peered out of her window, she spotted the small dog in serious danger.
Alicinha had pushed through a safety net opening and was stuck between the open air and the window. Her owner was out in traffic, and her family was not home, so no one could reach there on time.
Sensing the gravity of the situation, Clarissa did not hesitate. She first instructed the caretaker of the building to set up a temporary cushion using blankets in the event of a fall. Next, she took a cardboard box full of clothes and placed it strategically under the window, hoping that it would at least decelerate the impact and cushion the fall, although she was not sure if it would be able to withstand it.
The little dog escaped unharmed
Instincts were a lifesaver. Alicinha fell, but the box did its work, stopping the worst from happening. The little dog survived the ordeal uninjured but shaken visibly. Soon, she was back in her owner’s arms, trembling but safe. A rescue video shot by some of the neighbors quickly went viral through social media and attracted thousands of shares and comments on how brave and quick-witted Clarissa was.
This has reignited the conversation on the need to secure balconies and windows when one lives with pets. Small and particularly curious dogs can squeeze into dangerous spaces or attempt to climb onto ledges.
It is also important to inspect safety nets periodically, ensure they have no holes or vulnerable areas, and, if necessary, place plexiglass panels or gratings in railings. This account had a successful ending thanks to Clarissa’s composed and confident responses, which proved that sometimes one’s movement can truly matter.
