Jagjit Singh, an entrepreneur from Gurugram, India, has turned a simple idea into a mission to improve the lives of stray animals in and around Delhi. Through his initiative, Stray Talk India, Singh creates shelters for these animals using recycled materials, such as plastic barrels and wooden fiber containers.

These shelters are designed to provide protection and warmth for stray dogs, particularly during the harsh winters in the region, when temperatures can drop dramatically. Singh’s journey started with an unexpected observation that sparked his innovative idea.

One day, he noticed a stray dog resting comfortably inside an empty barrel at his factory. Inspired, Singh began converting these unused containers into cozy shelters, lining them with mattresses for added comfort. The initial success encouraged him to expand the project, involving his factory staff and other volunteers.

 

Free shelters distributed to citizens every Sunday

Every Sunday, Singh and his team distribute the shelters free of charge to citizens willing to care for stray dogs in their communities. This initiative has attracted a wide audience, with people traveling from neighboring cities like Meerut to collect the shelters. Since 2021, the team has produced over 1,700 shelters, showcasing how collaboration and dedication can drive meaningful change.

In addition to distributing shelters, Singh also shared a video tutorial on the Instagram page of Stray Talk India to help those unable to visit Gurugram create similar shelters themselves. Singh credits the initiative’s success not just to his efforts, but to the commitment of countless citizens who have joined in, demonstrating the widespread desire to make a difference.
