PETA has denounced the cruelty with which chicks are treated in the poultry industry, throwing them to the ground and dropping them from crates without respect for their well-being

A disturbing video shared by PETA has shed harsh light on the poultry industry’s cruelty where thousands of chicks are being treated inhumanely. In this incident, farm workers were filmed throwing thousands of chicks from crates onto the ground. The video has gone viral on Instagram, with a very callous caption that reads:
“For anyone wondering what it’s like to work in 125°F, and needing to work as fast as possible.”
The footage shows what frequently occurs in both the egg and meat industries when animals are deemed too unprofitable. Investigations of similar operations expose the brutal reality behind such farming practices. For example, unwanted chicks are commonly crushed, drowned, or even fed alive to fish at major poultry suppliers.
These shocking practices, widely condemned by PETA and other animal rights groups, put a face on the extensive suffering within the industry, even on so-called “family farms” which many people believe to be somehow kinder than industrial operations.
Male chicks deemed useless in the egg industry
An important ethical issue is the treatment of male chicks; since they do not lay eggs, they are generally considered “useless” in the egg industry. At times, millions of male chicks might be brutally killed by grinding, burning, or suffocation.
PETA runs campaigns to raise public awareness about such cruelties so that better treatment of animals can be enforced and people may be able to avoid cruelty by shifting their lifestyle toward veganism.
Animal suffering in factory farms: A Widespread Problem
This incident reflects a broader pattern of animal suffering in factory farming, where the motives of making money commonly override animal welfare-a fact that has surfaced on numerous occasions. It is time to stand up against this cruelty.
