The story of Aaron, a six-year-old pit bull, is a story that leaves us horrified and saddened. The dog, abandoned in an apartment in the province of Como (Italy), endured a nightmare, without food or water for a prolonged period.
Aaron’s hunger led him to consume non-food materials such as plastic, cloth, and rubber in an attempt to fill his hunger, accumulating a mass of garbage in his stomach that would claim his life.
Aaron’s owner had always looked after him very well, and due to personal reasons, he had to leave him in the temporary care of a person he trusted. This person, although willing at first to take care of the dog, left Aaron in an apartment and totally neglected his basic needs.
He could not be saved by an emergency operation
The owner’s sister, who was providing food and money for the upkeep of the dog, believed the updates provided by the person who was looking after him. The videos and photos, however, were old ones, intended to conceal the bitter reality of Aaron’s experience. When this person no longer answered calls and provided updates, suspicion grew.
After nearly a year, Aaron was finally found by the father of the person who was supposed to look after him. The dog was a skeleton, a gruesome sight of suffering and neglect. He was taken to a veterinary hospital in Milan, where the doctors did everything they could, performing emergency surgery to remove the 4.4 pounds of objects he had ingested.
Unfortunately, his condition was too serious, and Aaron did not survive. The veterinary report attested to the tragic truth: the dog was found in an unclean environment, in his own feces, severely malnourished, with his stomach containing indigestible materials.
Aaron’s case is yet another example of man’s cruelty and neglect. The act of injustice performed on this dog cannot go unpunished. An official complaint has been filed so that the culprit is legally pursued. His suffering should not be in vain: it is important that such a thing never happens again and that people who indulge in such acts are legally punished.
