Woman in intensive care after wolf attack in Paris safari park

The Arctic wolves attacked her, causing serious injuries to her neck, back and leg, but it is not clear how the woman was able to get closer in an area reserved for cars

A woman is in intensive care after being attacked by three wolves while jogging in a safari park near Paris. The incident occurred early Sunday morning at Thoiry Park, located about 25 miles west of Paris. The victim, a 36-year-old woman, was staying in a lodge within the park when she wandered into the main safari area, which is designated for cars only.

The Arctic wolves, which typically roam freely in the park, attacked her, causing severe injuries to her neck, back, and leg. The woman’s screams alerted the park’s guards, who quickly intervened to save her. She was then rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is now in intensive care.

Thoiry Park’s renowned wildlife experience

Thoiry is one of France’s most popular nature parks, known for its 800 animals that can roam freely while visitors observe them safely from their vehicles. The park also offers accommodations near the wolf and bear enclosures, with the lodge area protected by electric fences and moats. However, it remains unclear how the woman managed to enter the car-only safari zone.

Unclear circumstances surrounding the incident

Park authorities have not released an official statement regarding the incident. However, an anonymous police source told Le Parisien that they are still trying to clarify the exact circumstances that led the guest to enter a dangerous area:

“We do not know at this stage whether the guest made a mistake or if there was an issue with the signage.”

Thoiry Park hosts numerous animal species, including Arctic wolves, which can be observed in an environment that simulates their natural habitat. Visitors are usually protected by strict safety measures, including electric fences and moats, to prevent any direct contact with the animals.

Investigation underway

An investigation is currently underway to determine the causes of the incident and assess whether additional safety measures are necessary. The tragedy has raised concerns about visitor safety and the effectiveness of existing protective measures in the park. Meanwhile, everyone is hoping for the injured woman’s speedy recovery.
