Tesla and Apple bring car control to your wrist

Tesla and Apple join forces to offer a new app that integrates Apple Watch with Tesla vehicles: unlock the car, check the battery and manage the climate control from the wrist

Speaking of innovation, there’s nothing to introduce: Tesla and Apple are one of those few brand pairs. But this time, things seem different because a breakthrough might be coming in how we deal with our cars on a daily basis. With an Apple Watch app addition for Tesla owners, the hassle of rummaging through their pouch for the phone or the car key can finally be ruled out.

A new feature with the perfect combination of simplicity and utility

Let’s be clear: this is not the technological revolution that will change the world, but it is one of those small innovations that can make a difference in everyday life. If you already have an iPhone and an Apple Watch, installation will be automatic. Once activated, the app allows the user to lock and unlock the car, open the trunk, check the battery charge, and adjust the climate control.

Is it practical? Absolutely. Is it necessary? That depends. For those who are always on the go or have their hands full with shopping bags or children, the ability to open the trunk with a simple tap on a smartwatch could be a game-changer.

A technology that raises questions

Beyond the immediate convenience, the bigger idea behind this feature is what deserves more attention. The deeper integration between technology and mobility driven by Tesla and Apple does raise important questions about how much we are willing to rely on technology for even the simplest actions.

As much as this collaboration is fascinating, it indicates a very serious problem: the growing dependence on connected devices. While on one hand it may be convenient and efficient, on the other hand, questions of sustainability and resilience arise. Are we sure that we want to give more and more control to technologies? And what if these systems fail someday?

In the future, driving will no longer be just electric and autonomous but also inevitably digital. But is this the future we want? The choice is ours to make.
