The Paris 2024 Olympics are generating excitement not only for the athletic achievements but also for a touch of romance. A viral video has captured the moment Argentine handball player Pablo Simonet made an unforgettable marriage proposal to his girlfriend, Pilar Campoy, a field hockey player.
Pablo chose the romantic backdrop of Paris, the “city of love,” for this significant moment. During a group photo session with the Argentine men’s handball and women’s hockey teams, Pablo surprised Pilar with a unique proposal. As the group posed for the picture on the Seine, he quietly stepped forward from the second row, pulled out an engagement ring, and knelt before her.
The couple’s shared Olympic history
The proposal took Pilar by surprise, and she was visibly moved, covering her face with her hands as the crowd erupted in applause. Pablo shared the joyous moment on Instagram, expressing his delight at her acceptance and reflecting on the significance of Paris for them. He wrote:
“The woman of my life said yes. In the dream place where it all started and where we fought so hard to be. The happiness is complete. Thank you to friends and a few accomplices for making this special and allowing us to keep it forever. Paris is always a good idea”.
Together since 2015, the couple has already shared significant sporting experiences, including marching hand-in-hand during the opening ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympics. Last year, both the Argentine men’s handball and women’s hockey teams won gold medals at the Pan American Games on the same day, securing their spots at the Paris Olympics. As they aim for further success in Paris, Pilar is already assured of a cherished victory: the beginning of a new life together with Pablo.
