Gatorwine, the weird combination of Gatorade and cheap red wine, is one of the latest viral trends dividing the web

Cyclical food and drink trends often take over social media, and now it’s the turn of “Gatorwine” – a peculiar combination of two seemingly incompatible beverages: Gatorade and red wine (the cheap kind).
This quirky mixture was introduced by American chef and YouTuber Andrew Rea, known for his channel “Binging with Babish.” Rea decided to try it on the advice of a follower during a special tasting episode.
How to make Gatorwine
The recipe is quite simple: mix equal parts of light blue Gatorade and a low-cost red wine – a choice that would make any fine wine lover cringe.
Rea compared this unlikely cocktail to a sort of “poor man’s Sangria,” with the Gatorade adding berry and citrus notes to the wine, though with results far from the elegance of the classic Spanish drink. He ultimately rated the Gatorwine a 6 out of 10, a moderately positive score that increased to a 7 as the tasting continued.
“In a very disgusting and perverse way, I like it,” Rea confessed, also noting how the mix doesn’t resemble anything known.
Reactions from the fans
In the comments on the video, viewers were split between curiosity and horror at the idea of trying Gatorwine. Some decided to experiment further, testing the mix with other flavors of Gatorade, while others have already declared it the “best way to stretch the life of a bad bottle of wine“. One follower even suggested a sequel episode to mix different Gatorade flavors to find the perfect Gatorwine formula.
While online reactions range from excitement to disgust, one thing is clear: Gatorwine has unexpectedly captured the public’s attention (at least in the U.S.). Whether out of curiosity, irony, or desperation, this drink is quickly becoming a viral phenomenon.
We certainly don’t feel the need to try it, but those who are curious should remember that Gatorwine is not a healthy choice and should be limited to just a taste.
