Dating apps like Tinder are falling out of favor

People are now fed up with screens and dating apps and "innovative" and less virtual methods are arriving to meet new partners

In 2024, traditional dating apps like Tinder are losing their appeal. Increasingly, people seem to be growing tired of these apps, often perceived as shallow and exhausting. Responding to this rising discontent, a new dating app called Pique has chosen to take a more innovative and human approach.

Recently, Pique introduced a “Love Wall” in Brooklyn, where singles can meet in a direct and authentic way. In a relaxed environment, a photographer takes Polaroid snapshots of the participants, who can then attach their photos to a wall along with brief personal descriptions. This initiative allows people to connect tangibly, moving beyond the frustration of endless swiping on traditional apps.

In an era when Gen Z is becoming increasingly aware of tech companies’ gamification strategies, events like the “Love Wall” offer an alternative that promotes genuine interactions. Pique has also removed the swiping feature from its app, instead proposing daily multiple-choice questions to stimulate conversation among users.

In China, “singles markets” are thriving

This new trend of seeking more meaningful connections is reflected in other parts of the world as well. In China, for example, “singles marketsorganized by parents have become a popular phenomenon. Here, parents gather in parks to present their single children, displaying posters with detailed information and photos in hopes of finding them a partner.

While this practice reflects a more traditional culture and family expectations, it highlights the deep-rooted desire for meaningful and lasting bonds. It also underscores how fatigue with conventional dating apps is pushing people to seek more authentic and direct ways to connect.

Despite the technological changes that seemed to revolutionize the dating world for several years, reality is now reasserting itself. The human need for genuine interaction is finally becoming fundamental once again.
