The art of pastry: Japan takes the crown at the 2025 world cup

This year, Japan triumphed at the Pastry World Cup, followed by France and Malaysia.

The World Cup of Pastry is an international, prestigious competition that has celebrated the best pastry craftsmanship since 1989, thanks to the initiative of MOF Gabriel Paillasson. The 2025 edition took on the theme of national heritage and was won by Japan, represented by Masanaori Hata, Yuji Matoba, and Ryu Miyazaki. Second and third places went to France and Malaysia, respectively.

The Japanese team just blew the jury’s minds with 14,026 points, thanks to desserts that reflected the rich traditions of their country and were produced with such attention to detail. It is not the first victory for them: in 2023 also, Japan won, which means this is the second victory in a few years.

 

France took the second position with representatives Haruka Atsuji, Jérémy Massing, and Mickael Guyade. Malaysia finished on the podium.

Honorary president Amaury Guichon exclaimed his delight about the results:

“Each team has succeeded in transcribing its own heritage into edible works of art. The success of this edition reminds us that, if the world is more digital every day, craftsmanship will remain priceless.”

China also shone bright with elegant designs of its pastry and a large giant fish sculpture.

The Moroccan team consisted of Mohamed El Yazidi, Omar Eddib, and Sidi Mohamed Lamraoui. They present three huge pastries:”Souss Symphony” – A tribute to the region of Souss
“Marrakech Essence” dedicated to the bright city of Marrakech; “Sahara Roll,” dedicating to the gastronomic culture of Morocco;

 

and Paraguay was represented by Chiara Pederzani, Johanna Borgognon, and Tomas Arrua, who presented their outstanding skills, too. Which of these amazing desserts has truly captured your heart?
