Born in Tokyo, Masayuki Oki, a photographer, has cultivated an endless passion for wild cats, photographing them in all possible settings since 2013.
It began in 2013 when, while strolling in a park, his attention was caught by a stray cat roaming around. After photographing it, Oki started looking for other cats in the park, eager to take new portraits.
Since then, his life has been a journey of lens for finding street cats.
Capturing individual personalities
The photographer has confirmed that he considers these animals very photogenic, and because of his passion, he has managed to establish a special bond with them. His pictures seem to capture their personality and individuality.
Oki has compiled his photos in a book called Busa Nyan. Although the term can be translated as “ugly cat”, in Japanese it has a specific meaning—one of cuteness and affection.
A global odyssey
Though his hobby began in Tokyo, Masayuki now travels around the world, never missing to capture new street cats along the way.
As is evident from his pictures, each cat possesses a unique personality that Masayuki can capture with ease.
