Whoopi Goldberg launches all women’s sports network: a global platform for female athletes

All Women's Sports Network is dedicated to broadcasting live women's sports to fill the visibility gap that female athletes have suffered over the years

Whoopi Goldberg has just partnered with JungoTV to bring the world the All Women’s Sports Network: a revolutionary channel that will feature live women’s sports exclusively.

This is in a bid to challenge the long-held status quo of female teams and athletes receiving minimal attention by airing top-tier events such as the UEFA Women’s Nations League, Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL), alongside International Basketball Federation events.

AWSN launched yesterday on platforms such as VIZIO WatchFree+ in the United States and JioTV in India and will eventually reach over 65 countries worldwide, home to up to two billion viewers.

Goldberg said that the network was born out of her request to make sure that women athletes get the due recognition and exposure in a male-dominated industry. “We want the ability for women and girls to have a platform to see themselves represented in sports,” she added, citing the significance of role models as motivation for future generations to either participate in or support women’s athletics.

A wide range of sports on offer

AWSN represents a significant push toward the normalization of women’s sports as a core part of the international sporting landscape. The network will carry up to 2,000 hours of live sporting events in 2025, a number that will include soccer, basketball, hockey, and a great deal more.

The programming is purposefully diverse, covering popular and not-so-popular sports, and highlights the breadth of women’s talents all over the world. AWSN also signed a partnership with a US-based healthcare system, CommonSpirit Health, to support its mission of promoting health among women through sports.

George Chung, co-founder and CEO of JungoTV, underlined how important the network is: “AWSN meets the growing demand for women’s sports content by offering fans a dedicated platform to follow their favorite athletes and teams.” He added that its inclusive global approach intends to give women the spotlight in order to show the passion and commitment toward their sports, often deprived of attention by mainstream sports media.

More than a network: a global community

AWSN strives to be so much more than an avenue of broadcasting, building a community that unites fans and athletes alike across the world regardless of age or background. Goldberg said she envisioned AWSN serving as an epicenter for anyone who considers sports as an equalizer and an inspiration toward reaching their full potential by tearing down restrictive gender barriers that have traditionally confined a woman’s participation in athletics.
