Hyundai recalls over 226,000 vehicles in the U.S.

Hyundai Motor is recalling 226,118 vehicles in the United States because the rearview camera image may not display

Hyundai is recalling over 226,000 of its SUVs and compact cars in the United States due to a defect in their rear cameras, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a statement recently.

What’s causing the problem?

The problem stems from soldering joints on a printed circuit board that can fatigue and eventually crack, the documents from NHTSA said. The cracks can get worse and eventually lead to failure of rearview camera images. “The loss of the image reduces the driver’s visibility, increasing the risk of injury to pedestrians,” NHTSA said in its findings.

Which vehicles are affected?

The recall covers some 2021-2022 Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs and Elantra sedans.

What to do

Dealers will replace the rearview cameras free of charge. Hyundai will start notifying affected owners by letters on January 19.
