Colombia has just been designated as the most beautiful country in Latin America and the third in the world, according to a report on Forbes based on an investigation conducted by the money.co.uk website. The same research ranked the destinations for biodiversity and tourist attractions, such as mountains, volcanoes, rainforests, and coral reefs, which scored between 0 and 10.
Colombia reached a score of 7.16, positioning it third after Indonesia’s 7.77 and New Zealand’s 7.27. One of the key factors that helped Colombia come out so well in this ranking is the amazing diversification of its landscapes.
The Andean region with its towering mountains, the great Amazon, which is considered one of the lungs of the planet, and the beaches along the Caribbean Sea-all combine to make natural variety that is hard to find anywhere else in the world. Besides its geographical diversity, the country has extraordinary biodiversity: it is home to thousands of species of flora and fauna over more than 193,000 square miles of tropical forest.
Tourism booms in 2023
Its coffee region is one of the most sought-after places in the country. Not only does it have plantations of coffee, but it also shows mountainous, forested, riverine, and lacustrine landscapes. Beside natural beauties, other reasons exist, such as the growth of cultural and gastronomic offerings, for it to be increasingly demanded in the global market.
Tourists flocked to Colombia by the droves in 2023, reaching an all-time record for the country of over 5.8 million visitors. This success can be attributed to its stunning natural beauty and rising status as one of the world-class tourist destinations.
This recognition by Forbes only reinforces this trend, bringing even more attention from travelers around the world. Other Latin American countries to appear in great standing on the list were Ecuador, in 11th place, and Mexico in 5th. An added reason to take a tour in these usually less-looked-at, yet magnificent places.
